Is anyone under any illusion which side is winning this argument? If you have any semblance of patriotism in your heart, it is painful to watch these athletes sit on the bench or take a knee in order to disrespect the country that gives them so much. They play a game for a living, they make millions of dollars, and they can’t even stand at attention to honor the country and flag that makes it all possible for them.
As the Daily Wire reminds us, Americans were overwhelming opposed to the players protesting during the National Anthem:
In September 2016, CBS Sports reported that two polls — one from Reuters and another from SurveyMonkey — showed that an overwhelming majority of Americans were not supportive of then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem.
The Reuters poll found that 72% of Americans viewed the protest as “unpatriotic” and 61% disagreed with the protest itself and Kaepernick’s anti-American viewpoint. The SurveyMonkey poll was a little bit closer, finding 44% of Americans didn’t support Kaepernick’s protest while 29% did. The remaining respondents weren’t sure how to feel about it.
Kaepernick started it all back then with his kneeling and socks depicting police officers as pigs, and it has continued to grow. It’s sickening to watch. It’s a failure of the education system that used to teach patriotism. We used to teach that despite our flaws, the goal of America is unity around our country and our flag. These players have chosen to destroy that.
President Trump called out from the heart of America when he made his comments last Friday in Alabama. He is attacked as being divisive. But you tell me who is being divisive? Is it the President who simply feels like millions of us do that we ought to respect the flag that people have shed blood defending, or does the divisiveness come from the person wearing these:
Respect the flag and the National Anthem. Leave your politics in the locker room.
